A man on an evening bike ride Tuesday was seriously injured when a hit-and-run driver crashed into him in Amityville, Suffolk police said.

James Agostino, 64, of Amityville, was riding a Huffy bicycle east on Merrick Road near Bayview Avenue when he was struck at about 8:45 p.m. by someone driving what the police said was described as a dark-colored sedan.

That motorist drove off, headed north on Bayview Avenue, police said. 

Agostino was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital, police said.
