Nassau police assisted with the arrest in Hempstead Monday of a Florida man who was wanted in his home state on an attempted murder charge, police said.

The Nassau County Police Fugitive Squad helped the U.S. Marshals Service locate Angel R. Villafranca of Lake Worth, Florida, on a fugitive arrest warrant from Palm Beach County Circuit Court.

Villafranca was arrested at 755 Fulton Ave. about 1:40 p.m., Nassau police said.

He is charged with first-degree attempted murder with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

He was transported to police headquarters in Mineola to await extradition.
