The Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is investigating the discovery of a dozen garbage bags filled with animal body parts in Deer Park.

The bags, which contained body parts of goats, chickens, and roosters, were discovered Friday morning off Long Island Avenue near the Deer Park Long Island Rail Road station, SPCA Chief Roy Gross said Sunday.

Babylon Town workers were cleaning in the area and found the bags, Gross said. He said the dumping may have happened over a period of several weeks. The land where the bags were found is Babylon town property, he said.

Most of the animals had been beheaded, he said. "We're investigating this as an animal cruelty case."

Metropolitan Transportation Authority and Suffolk police are not involved in the case, spokesmen for both agencies said.

The SPCA asks that anyone with information about the discovery call the agency at 631-382-7722.
