Police were searching Friday night for the person who drove off in an "unattended" armored truck parked outside an HSBC bank in Valley Stream, removed cash from it and abandoned it, Nassau County police said.
The truck had been parked at 260 Sunrise Hwy. when it was reported missing about 2:50 a.m. Friday, a police spokesman said, adding that the incident is being investigated.
Two technicians who were servicing an automated teller machine inside the HSBC branch on Sunrise Highway returned to find the armored truck missing, a bank official said.
The black and white 2007 Ford Econoline was found hours later, but still in Valley Stream, the police spokesman said. He had no further details. The vehicle was recovered on South Central Avenue.
Photographs show the truck is owned by Montreal-based GardaWorld. Representatives for GardaWorld were not immediately available to comment.
