An Amityville man who police say burglarized a Copiague store in August was arrested Tuesday afternoon.

Suffolk County police said Tyler Heller, 27, destroyed a rooftop chimney vent, tied a rubber hose to piping on the roof and climbed down to gain entry into the AMVETS Thrift Store on Sunrise Highway in August 2017.

Heller was eventually startled by the alarm and threw a ceramic container through the front glass door to flee the scene, police said.

He was arrested after turning himself in Tuesday at 4:50 p.m., police said.

Heller is charged with third-degree burglary and two counts of third-degree criminal mischief.

He is expected to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Wednesday.
