A Brentwood man who is suspected in a string of armed robberies was arrested Tuesday night after he robbed a Brentwood travel agency at knifepoint, police said.

Yovany Castro, 32, of 42 Bergen St., was charged with six counts of first-degree robbery, Suffolk County police said. He is scheduled for arraignment Wednesday in First District Court in Central Islip.

Police said Castro was arrested after robbing the Servi Travel agency in Brentwood at about 6:30 p.m. Police said he walked into the agency waving a knife and demanding money — and said employees had to “fight off” Castro after he stole the cash. He then fled in a green Toyota Camry, but was followed by a witness to nearby Nostrand Avenue.

The witness then flagged down police officers, who stopped and arrested Castro.

Police said detectives determined Castro was suspected in “numerous other similar armed robberies” in Brentwood and Central Islip dating back to April 2009 — and said the investigation is ongoing.
