Authorities arrested five Suffolk County residents and seized one vehicle during a sobriety checkpoint in Patchogue between late Friday night and early Saturday morning.
Suffolk County police, as well as the State Police and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, conducted a checkpoint at Waverly Plaza, at the corner of Waverly Avenue and north Sunrise Highway Service Road, according to a news release.
The checkpoint was held as part of ongoing holiday enforcement operations to prevent motor vehicle crashes due to impaired driving, Suffolk police said in the news release. Authorities checked 528 vehicles between 11:20 p.m. Friday and 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
Daniel Leshaw, 32, of Port Jefferson Station, Michael Bosnack, 32, of Sayville, Nicole Scherer, 40, of Bayport, James Cunningham, 52, of Central Islip, and Tony Rosales, 35, of Huntington Station, were charged with driving while intoxicated, police said. They were scheduled to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip.
Rosales’s car was seized due to a prior conviction, police said.
