Cops: ATV rider struck July 10 in Hempstead by hit-run driver dies
A man riding an ATV who was struck July 10 by a hit-and-run driver in Hempstead has died from his injuries, the Nassau County Police Department said Monday.
The case, which is being investigated by the department's Third Squad, remains unsolved.
The victim, 31 of Valley Stream, had been hospitalized in critical condition following the crash, which occurred at about 8:53 p.m. at the intersection of Peninsula Boulevard and South Franklin Street. His identity has not been disclosed by the police department, which in a news release Monday announced his death, nor was the date he died included.
In the same release, the police department provided additional information about what happened that night, including more specifics about the hit-and-run driver's vehicle: that driver had been traveling east on the boulevard in an older model, dark-blue Nissan Altima. An earlier release said the driver fled north on South Franklin.
The release did not say how the department arrived at the new information.
