AG: Brentwood man charged in auto insurance scam

A Brentwood man is among five people arrested after trying to defraud their auto insurance companies by falsifying documents to get a higher reimbursement for repairs, officials said Wednesday.

The state attorney general’s office identified the man as Victor Carrasquillo, 27.

Online court records show Carrasquillo was arrested Feb. 8 and was released on his own recognizance after being arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip on a felony charge of insurance fraud.

Carrasquillo filed a claim on April 3, 2016, for damage to the rear passenger side of his vehicle, then withdrew the claim after learning that his deductible was $2,500, the attorney general’s office said.

On April 7, 2016, he lowered his deductible from $2,500 to $500 and filed a new claim in May saying the damage happened on April 22, the attorney general’s office said.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said in a news release that the arrests are part of an ongoing investigation called Operation Crash & Buy II that has led to 11 arrests. The four other recent arrests included a Pennsylvania man, two Brooklyn men and a Brooklyn woman, officials said.
