Baldwin man charged in car break-ins, Nassau police say
A Baldwin man was arrested Monday and charged with possession of stolen property after a call to 911 reported a person attempting to open car doors in a parking lot, Nassau County police said.
Police said officers responding to the call saw a man walking away from the vehicles on Grand Avenue in Baldwin at 4:52 a.m. and arrested him.
Andres Vines, 36, had a flashlight, a GPS device and a hypodermic needle containing an unknown liquid, police said. One of the cars in the lot had a broken window and was missing a GPS device, police said.
Vines was charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, petty larceny, criminal mischief in the fourth degree and criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument, police said.
He was arraigned before Judge Joseph Girardi in First District Court in Hempstead. Bail was set at $2,500 cash or bond.
In May 2016, Vines pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree and criminal mischief in the fourth degree, court documents show. He served an eight-month jail sentence and was released in November 2016, according to Nassau County Sheriff’s Department records.
