A Baldwin man was arrested early Wednesday after police said he stabbed a man outside a Hempstead bar.

Nassau County police said Pedro Mendez-Ramos, 21, of School Street, was at El Mariachi Bar on Fulton Street at about 3 a.m. Wednesday when he got into an argument with another patron.

The argument continued outside and police said Mendez-Ramos displayed a knife, then stabbed the other man in the right side of his chest. Mendez-Ramos then fled, police said.

The man was taken to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Police found Mendez-Ramos in Oceanside and placed him under arrest at 4:07 a.m.

Mendez-Ramos was charged with first-degree assault and fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon. He was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead. Arraignment information was not yet available.
