Barbara Kalinowski charged with DWI with daughters, friend in SUV
Suffolk Third Precinct officers arrested a West Babylon woman who they said was driving drunk Monday when she rear-ended a car in Brentwood while carrying her two daughters and their friend in her sport utility vehicle, authorities said.
Barbara Kalinowski, 44, of Kellum Street, was charged with violating Leandra’s Law, an offense defined as aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child 15 years old or younger; driving while intoxicated; and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child following the 11:55 a.m. incident, police said.
She was being held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Central Islip.
Kalinowski was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox north on Washington Avenue and Express Drive South when she struck a 2014 Honda sedan, police said, adding that Kalinowski’s passengers included her 8- and 10-year-old daughters and their 10-year-old friend.
The 47-year-old man who was driving the Honda was not hurt.
Kalinowski’s daughters were released to their father and the friend was released to her parents. Suffolk County Child Protective Services was notified.
