Police are searching for two men who stole six baseball bats worth $2,099 from a Dick's Sporting Goods store in Melville.

Suffolk County police said the theft occurred at the store on Walt Whitman Road at about 7 p.m. on May 2.

The bats, Easton Hype Fire USA Youth Bats, have a list price of $349.99 each. According to the Dick's website, the composite multicolor yellow, orange and red bats are made with what Easton describes as a three-dimensional composite rope that wraps around the inner barrel "directly at the sweet spot" — a process, the manufacturer says, that "amplifies energy transfer."

Police have released surveillance photographs of the suspects and are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.

All calls and text messages will remain confidential, police said.
