A Bay Shore woman was charged Tuesday with attacking a 14-year-old girl with a metal water bottle outside Brentwood High School.

Police said the 14-year-old girl began arguing with the woman's 15-year-old daughter as the two teens left the school at about 11 a.m.

During the argument, police said Toni Monroe, 35, hit the 14-year-old multiple times with the metal water bottle. A school security guard broke up the fight and police arrested Monroe in the school parking lot.

The 14-year-old student was taken to a hospital to be treated for her non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Monroe was charged with second-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child. She was released Wednesday with non-monetary conditions at her arraignment in First District Court in Central Islip. She pleaded not guilty and a temporary order or protection was issued.

Monroe could not be reached for comment.

Brentwood school district officials said in a statement they could not comment on the case, noting that it occurred during dismissal between two students and a parent, but said they were cooperating with authorities.

"The safety and well-being of our students is always our highest priority, and this type of behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated in our schools," Brentwood Superintendent Wanda Ortiz-Rivera said in a statement.
