Arraignment of a Bay Shore dance school instructor charged in the rape of an underage student has been postponed until later this week, Suffolk County prosecutors said.
Bryan Galvis, 27, of Brentwood, who has been free on bail after his January arrest on rape and other charges, was to appear before Judge Barbara Kahn in Riverhead, according to the office of Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota.
The judge decided to postpone the arraignment until Friday, according to Spota’s office.
Spota said Galvis started a sexual relationship with the student, a 14-year-old girl, this past October, when he was teaching at the Herencia Caleña Latin Dance Co.
A sign on the door of the dance school said it is closed until further notice, News 12 Long Island reported Tuesday.
The girl told a family member of the nature of the relationship and police were contacted, Spota’s office said in the release.
Galvis was arrested on the charges on Jan. 11 and has been free on a $100,000 bond.
