Bay Shore High grad accused of putting camera in campus restroom
Suffolk police arrested and charged a former Bay Shore High School student Wednesday for allegedly concealing a hidden camera in a restroom on the campus.
Police said the suspect, 18, graduated last year and had been volunteering with the school's drama club. He is accused of installing the camera in a single-use restroom at the school.
School officials reported the recording device to police after it was discovered Nov. 17. It recorded at least two students, police said.
The teen was charged with unlawful surveillance and is set to be arraigned at another date, police said.
School officials said they had been working with police since last week to identify the suspect.
“As a result, the individual, who was volunteering with the High School drama production, will no longer be allowed to access any district facility,” Bay Shore Superintendent Steven Maloney said in a letter to parents. “The safety and security of our students and staff remains a top priority. As always, thank you for your continued support of our students and Bay Shore Schools.”
