Four men were charged after officers determined gummies laced with tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) were being sold out of a Bellmore cigar store, Nassau County police said.

Officers executing a search warrant at Bellmore Cigars, Vapor, Lotto Store on Merrick Road Wednesday found “large quantities of tetrahydrocannabinol and US currency," police said.

The four men charged are: Dinesh Venkata, 47, of Richmond Hill; Ujaval Darji, 27, of Monmouth Junction, New Jersey; Aashutosh Kinra, 22, of Merrick; and Krunal A. Patel, 26, of Wantagh.

Venkata, Kinra and Patel were charged with the possession and sale of a controlled substance. Darji was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

The four men were arraigned Thursday in Nassau First District Court. Each was released on their own recognizance with their next court appearance scheduled for Oct. 6, according to online records.

While the state has begun reviewing applications for recreational marijuana shops, currently only medical marijuana can be purchased.

A date has yet to be set for when recreational marijuana sales will begin.
