A Bellport man was taken into custody and charged Sunday after Suffolk police said he drove while intoxicated with his 8-year-old son in the vehicle and caused a chain-reaction crash in Mastic.

Melquisedes Nunez-Suazo, 34, was driving a 2012 Toyota Highlander on the westbound side of Montauk Highway when the SUV struck the rear of a 2012 Ford at about 4:15 p.m. at a traffic light west of Lambert Avenue, police said. The Ford then struck a 2017 Chevy, which hit a 2013 BMW, police said.

No one was injured, Suffolk police said.

Nunez-Suazo was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and aggravated driving while intoxicated under Leandra’s Law, which makes it a felony to drive while intoxicated with a child 15 or younger in the vehicle, police said.

He is set to appear in Central Islip Court on Monday to be arraigned.
