Nearly five months after an East Patchogue man was found hurt outside his home, and subsequently died, Suffolk police are asking for the public's help in determining what happened to him.

Around 9:50 p.m. on Oct. 30, Benjamin Herold, 41, walked from a 7-Eleven on Montauk Highway in East Patchogue to his home on Atlantic Avenue, police said. About 30 minutes later, police said he was found outside his home with leg pain.

Herold was taken to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

"Further investigation revealed his injuries could have been the result of being struck by a vehicle," police said.

A cash reward is being offered for any information that leads to an arrest. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Suffolk County Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-220-TIPS, using a mobile app that can be downloaded through the App Store or Google Play by searching P3 Tips, or by visiting www.P3Tips.com.
