A bicyclist was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver on Hauppauge Road in Commack late Friday night, police said.  Credit: Evan Rolla

A bicyclist died after a hit-and-run crash in Commack on Friday night, according to Suffolk County police.

The crash happened in front of 68 Hauppauge Rd. just before midnight, the agency said in a news release.

Aryan Saini, 20, of Central Islip, was riding an e-bike eastbound on that street when "a small white SUV" going in the same direction hit him from behind, police said.

The driver of the SUV left the scene after the crash, according to the release.

The bicyclist was pronounced dead at a hospital in West Islip.

Suffolk's Major Case Unit asks anyone with information about the crash to call police at 631-852-6555 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
