Man found on Greenway Trail in Port Jefferson Station was fatally stabbed, Suffolk police say

Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the stabbing death of a man found on a hiking trail Thursday in Port Jefferson Station.
Police spokesman Det. Lt. Kevin Beyrer said Sixth Precinct officers responding to a 911 call found the body of Benjamin Flores-Mendez on the Greenway Trail near Clifton Place by the Sixth Precinct at 12:55 a.m. Beyrer said the officers, along with a crew from Terryville Ambulance, attempted CPR on Flores-Mendez t but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Flores-Mendez, 39, lived in Port Jefferson Station.
Police are asking anyone with information about the stabbing to call Homicide Squad detectives at 631-852-6392 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
