Brentwood kidnapping suspect Holmark Garces nabbed in Brooklyn after two-hour pursuit, police say

A woman forced into a car by a man she knew while walking on a Brentwood street Wednesday evening was rescued more than two hours later in Brooklyn by NYPD officers — five of whom sustained minor injuries in the pursuit, Suffolk police and the NYPD said.

Holmark Garces, 33, of Bay Shore, compelled the woman — who was not harmed and whose identity was not released — into his 1999 Toyota Corolla on Grand Boulevard at Studley Street at approximately 8:35 p.m., Suffolk police said.

Alerted by witnesses to the abduction, police said they tried to stop him as he drove on the Southern State Parkway.

Garces, however, evaded police and continued his flight, which was also tracked by Suffolk aviation units, police said.

Driving through Nassau County and Queens, Suffolk police said, Garces took the Belt Parkway to Brooklyn, leaving the highway in Bay Ridge.

That is where he was arrested by NYPD officers serving in the 68th precinct, whose cars he rear-ended, police said.

"Garces struck NYPD patrol units with his vehicle, before he was taken into custody, at approximately 11 p.m.," Suffolk police said.

Garces will be charged with kidnapping — a felony with a top prison sentence of 25 years — and criminal contempt in Suffolk, police said. Arraignment information was not available online.

Before that, he will be arraigned in New York City, according to the NYPD. The charges he faces there include: reckless endangerment, obstruction of governmental administration, and fleeing an officer, as well as various motor vehicle infractions, from aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle to failure to obey a traffic control device, along with a one-way violation.
