Brooklyn man arrested in Uniondale shooting, police say
A Brooklyn man was arrested Friday night on charges that he shot a Uniondale man during an altercation.
Richard Michel, 36, of Utica Avenue, was arrested by the Nassau County police gang investigations unit, first squad detectives and the NYPD firearms investigations unit, authorities said.
Nassau police detectives said on Friday the 34-year-old Uniondale man was in a vehicle parked on the 800 block of Henry Street with four other people when he was ordered out of the car and assaulted.
Michel reportedly pointed a handgun at the man, prompting the man to try and grab the gun from Michel, who then shot the man.
Another man who was with Michel reportedly took the shooting victim’s cellphone and pushed him onto the street, before both retreated from the scene, police said.
A passer-by called 911, and the shooting victim was taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.
Michel was arrested at about 7:20 p.m. on the corner of Brooklyn Avenue and Empire Boulevard in Brooklyn, on charges of attempted murder, robbery, assault, criminal use of a firearm and criminal possession of a weapon.
He was arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead, where he was ordered to be held without bail, and scheduled for a Sept. 13 follow-up hearing, according to court officials.
A Nassau police spokeswoman said the investigation into the incident was ongoing and could not provide more details about what led to the incident.
