A Garden City man returned home Friday to a burglary in progress, but the two suspects ran off after hurting one of the resident's acquaintances in a fight, Nassau County police said.

The man, 27, was with three people when he got back to his Nassau Boulevard home about 4:25 a.m. Friday, police said. When one of his companions headed toward the back of the house, he saw a stranger standing near a window and another stranger climbing out a window.

In a struggle with the burglars, the acquaintance was hurt in the stomach, police said.

Shouts prompted the resident to go to the back of the house, where he saw one of the burglars lift his shirt and show what appeared to be a handgun in his waistband, police said. The pair stole clothing from the house, police said.

The injured acquaintance was treated at a hospital, police said.

The suspects appeared to be 25 to 35 years old and wore dark clothing, police said. A detailed description was not given, police said.

Fifth Precinct detectives ask anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
