Two men sought in Wantagh carjacking, Nassau police say
Police are searching for two men who, dressed in all black outfits, carjacked a 2020 Mercedes Benz at gunpoint Thursday night in Wantagh.
The incident occurred at about 9 p.m. in a residential parking lot at Ridgewood Drive and Wantagh Avenue, just a few blocks north of the Wantagh train station, Nassau County police said.
Police said the 44-year-old female driver, who had just parked the vehicle, was not hurt.
Police said that the woman had exited the vehicle and was retrieving items from it when the two men approached, claiming they were lost and asked for directions.
One then flashed a handgun and demanded the car keys, police said.
Police said there was also a getaway car, described as an older-model sport utility vehicle. Both vehicles fled south on Wantagh Avenue, police said.
Police are asking anyone with information regarding the carjacking to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
