A Centereach man has been indicted for allegedly driving drunk when he crashed earlier this year and injured a worker cleaning up debris on the Long Island Expressway, the Suffolk district attorney's office announced Wednesday.
Joseph Kalinowski, 54, is charged with aggravated vehicular assault and other crimes for allegedly crashing through a "clearly marked road closure," the office wrote in a news release.
He has been previously charged but the charges have been upgraded.
The worker, whose name wasn't disclosed, sustained a traumatic brain injury and a fractured arm in the crash, on Feb. 26 about 10:30 p.m.
"Kalinowski was allegedly driving his Toyota Camry from Jericho to his home in Centereach after having consumed alcohol," the release said.
He has been freed pending the case, which is due back in court June 3. He faces up to 15 years in prison. His lawyer Harmon Lutzer of Central Islip, didn't immediately return a message seeking comment.
