Suffolk police arrested and charged two men on Friday for allegedly stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from an elderly Central Islip man through a sweepstakes prize scam.

In December, the man, 92, picked up a call from someone telling him he had won $18 million through the Publisher’s Clearing House sweepstakes, the Suffolk County Police Department said in a news release.

To receive the money, the man was told “he had to fill out paperwork and pay taxes and fees,” Suffolk police said. During follow-up calls, the man was told to withdraw cash, write personal checks and take out funds in the form of a cashier’s check. His “initial loss was estimated to be in excess of $250,000,” according to police.

Following an investigation, Suffolk police arrested Oral Durloo, 31, of Brooklyn, and Brandon Nairne, 31, of Queens, and charged them with second-degree grand larceny. Both men will remain in custody overnight at the Third Precinct in Bay Shore and are scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday. Defense attorney information for either man was not immediately available.

Anyone who believes they could be a victim of Durloo and Nairne are asked to contact the Suffolk County Police Department.
