A Central Islip man was seriously injured early Sunday morning after being struck by a car while walking in the hamlet, Suffolk County police said.

Police said Renee Mendez Campos, 33, was crossing Suffolk Avenue, just east of Carleton Avenue, when he was struck by an eastbound 2000 Chevrolet, driven by Felix Vargas, 66, also of Central Islip, at about 1:45 a.m.

Campos was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment. Vargas and his female passenger were not injured.

Vargas’ vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.
