Charges against mom dropped in abuse case

Charges have been dropped against a New York City woman who spent nearly four years in jail on manslaughter charges for failing to get help for her infant daughter.

The Queens district attorney's office on Wednesday dropped charges of manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child against 27-year-old Li Ying in the shaken-baby death case.

Li always maintained her innocence.

She said neither she nor her husband did anything wrong.

Li Ying and Li Hangbin were arrested in 2008, five months after their 2-month-old baby died.

He faces charges of second-degree murder. Jury selection started Thursday.

Prosecutors dismissed the charges against Li Ying based on medical records that showed the baby's injuries were so severe that immediate medical attention wouldn't have helped save her.
