Nassau County police arrested a Freeport man after he led officers on a chase through a Roosevelt neighborhood and broke into a home Tuesday night, police said.

Freeport Village police were attempting to stop a stolen blue 2007 BMW at about 11:08 p.m. Tuesday when the suspect behind the wheel, identified as Choy Spence, 26, drove into Roosevelt, got out of the car and ran toward Forrest Avenue and Union Street, Nassau police said in a news release.

Freeport officers called Nassau police for backup, and officials searched the area for about an hour, police said. At about 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, police received a 911 call that a man had broken into a home on Thoma Place. The man fled the scene when the homeowner confronted him.

With assistance from the Nassau police’s canine and aviation units, officers tracked down Spence and arrested him at about 12:18 a.m.

Spence, of 38 Woodside Ave., was charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, resisting arrest and second- and third-degree criminal trespass.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
