A woman who pleaded guilty to smuggling cocaine into Long Island was sentenced to a decade in prison on Friday, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney’s office.
Amanda Abrahamsson, of Sweden, was arrested by undercover officers in September 2024 when she went to a Walgreens in Patchogue to pick up roughly 22 pounds of cocaine. The 26-year-old confessed to investigators shortly after her arrest.
Abrahamsson pleaded guilty to felony drug possession last month and, on Friday, was sentenced to 10 years in prison by a New York State Supreme Court Justice Timothy Mazzei, Tierney said.
"This defendant came from outside of Suffolk County specifically to commit these crimes, believing she could slip in and out," Tierney said in a news release on Friday. "She clearly underestimated the capability of [Suffolk Police] and our partners at Homeland Security Investigations to track her down and intercept these dangerous drugs."
The cocaine had been shipped via FedEx from California to Suffolk County in August 2024, according to investigators. The company flagged the package, which was later intercepted by law enforcement.
Prosecutors said Abrahamsson had reached out to FedEx multiple times about the status of the package, including showing up in-person at the FedEx location in Bohemia, before undercover officers contacted her to arrange the pickup in Patchogue.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement "has lodged a detainer to deport Abrahamsson following her sentence," according to Tierney’s office.
