A 42-year-old man was charged with assault after police said he stabbed his girlfriend with scissors, then punched her mother in the eye, during a domestic dispute Sunday at his home in Copiague.

Suffolk County police said Ade Pickering was arrested by First Squad detectives investigating the incident at his home on North Strong Avenue at about 10:20 p.m. Police said only that the stabbing and assault followed "an argument."

Police said the two victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, but did not provide additional details. The identities of both victims were withheld.

Pickering was charged with second-degree and third-degree assault. He was held on bail set at $100,000 bond or $50,000 cash and a temporary order of protection was issued at his arraignment in Suffolk First District Court.

Online records show Pickering was represented by court-assigned counsel, Jason Bassett, of Central Islip, who could not be immediately reached for comment.
