A Copiague mother who left her 5-year-old in a running car while she went into a department store faces child endangerment charges, Nassau County police said Thursday.

Juliia Medvid, 29, of Montauk Highway, told Second Precinct officers she was only in a Levittown Target for a few minutes when they responded to the store, at 3850 Hempstead Tpke., shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers arrested her on a charge of endangering the welfare of a child; she is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.

The child was released to a family friend, police said.
