Two teenage boys were stabbed in Belmont Lake State Park in North Babylon on Friday night after they were accosted by a group of about 10 youths, park police said.

The injured teens, aged 16 and 17, were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for treatment of their injuries, police said.

Chief Richard O'Donnell, commanding officer of the Long Island State Park Police, said one was stabbed in the face and leg and the other was stabbed in the chest. Both youths are conscious, O'Donnell said. "We have detectives who are speaking with both victims at this time," he said. "It's still unclear what transpired."

There were no immediate arrests.

The incident took place inside the park near the entrance by the Southern State Parkway about 7:55 p.m., O'Donnell said.

Investigators asked that anyone with information call the state park police at 631-321-3700.
