Cops arrest suspect in McDonald's ATM theft
Police said two men walked into a McDonald's Express in Hempstead with a hand truck back in October -- and walked out with a stand-alone ATM.
The machine was found by Suffolk County police in a vacant lot on Banbury Court in Amityville on Oct. 10, the day after the brazen Sunday-evening heist. It had been cut open, the cash inside taken, police said.
After an investigation, Nassau County police arrested a Farmingdale man.
Ricky Bellamy, 42, of 35 Schleigel Blvd., was charged with third-degree grand larceny and is scheduled for arraignment Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead.
Police said that after placing the ATM on the hand truck inside the McDonald's on Main Street, Bellamy and his accomplice loaded the machine into a pickup truck and drove away.
The second man is being sought, police said.
