A 54-year-old bicyclist was in serious condition Sunday after being struck Saturday night in West Islip by a Brightwaters man who was driving while intoxicated, Suffolk police said.

The bicyclist, Clemencia Mennella, suffered multiple fractures and was being treated at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, police said.

Thomas Sitone, 43, was charged with driving while intoxicated, police said. He was being held at the Third Precinct in Bay Shore pending his scheduled arraignment Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip.

According to a police report, Sitone was driving a 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck at 10:22 p.m. west on the Sunrise Highway North Service Road when he struck Mennella, who was riding the bicycle northbound on Manor Lane.

No information was immediately available from police on Mennella’s condition or where she lives.

Sitone’s vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.

Detectives ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
