For more than six years, police said, a Bayside man who worked as a paralegal and bookkeeper at a Great Neck Plaza law firm issued checks to himself totaling more than $200,000 - until, that is, the scheme was recently uncovered by an audit.

That led Nassau County police to arrest Robert Yom, 38, of 45-64 Oceania St., at his home Wednesday at 3:25 p.m.

Police said Yom was arrested without incident.

Yom was charged with second-degree grand larceny, second-degree possession of a forged instrument, second-degree forgery and first-degree falsifying of business records.

He was scheduled for arraignment Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead.

Between Nov. 3, 2003, and March 19, police said Yom issued checks in his name from the firm's account, then endorsed those checks by forging the signature of a firm partner. Police said it wasn't until a recent internal audit that the loss was discovered. It was not clear what prompted that audit. The law firm was not identified.
