Cops: Businessman stole medical supplies
A Florida businessman was arrested Friday for stealing a liposuction machine and medical supplies from a Great Neck doctor's office, Nassau police said.
Mitchell Brandt, 55, of Boca Raton, was part owner of the Great Neck business, police said, and the theft was uncovered when his 70-year-old partner reported them stolen on Jan. 4. Then on Jan. 7, the partner reported a deposit of about $6,100 in the business account that he knew did not belong there, police said.
An investigation led to Brandt's arrest and the recovery of the items, stored in New Hyde Park, police said.
The money was from three checks stolen from two doctors, one in Great Neck and another in Roslyn, police said.
Brandt was charged with second-degree grand larceny, third-degree grand larceny and first degree to defraud, police said. He is expected to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead.
