A Central Islip woman has been arrested in connection with the Saturday night assault of two Nassau police officers in Merrick, authorities said.
Cindy Pereira, 25, of East Chestnut Street, is charged with assault, obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest.
According to Nassau police, the altercation occurred shortly before 8:45 p.m. when two patrol officers responded to a 911 call for a disturbance at the Gateway Hotel on Sunrise Highway.
The officers found that Pereira “appeared to be intoxicated and was uncooperative,” police said.
During the investigation, Pereira struck one of the officers on the head with a closed fist, police said. A struggle ensued and Pereira was taken into custody, police said. While officers placed Pereira into a police car, she continued to resist and kicked both responding officers in the face and neck, causing injuries, police said.
The officers were taken to a hospital where they were treated and released, police said.
No arraignment has been scheduled.
