A Bronx man has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child after he was found driving drunk in Riverhead early Sunday morning with his 2-year-old daughter in the car, police said.

Joseph Butler, 37, who was charged under Leandra’s law, which makes it a felony, even on first offense, to drive with a passenger 15 years of age or younger in the vehicle. He also was charged with driving while intoxicated.

Riverhead police said Butler was pulled over on Osprey Avenue for alleged vehicle and traffic infractions shortly before 6:30 a.m. and upon further investigation police determined Butler was driving under the influence of alcohol.

Leandra’s Law is named for Leandra Rosado, 11, who was killed Oct. 11, 2009, in a DWI accident after the minivan in which she was a passenger crashed on the West Side Highway in Manhattan.
