Dog skull, remains found in Roosevelt woods, Nassau cops say
A dog skull discovered Monday afternoon in the Roosevelt Preserve led authorities to other decomposing dog remains, Nassau police said.
The remains were in various stages of decomposition inside plastic bags, police said. Some bags were buried, police said, while others were strewed about on the ground.
A passer-by had spotted an animal skull in the wooded area just east of Prospect Street, and authorities determined it was a dog’s, police said.
A police spokesman said he did not have other details, including about how many dogs were among the remains.
The remains were collected for further analysis by detectives, Hempstead Town animal control and Nassau County district attorney’s office, police said.

The Nassau County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is offering a $5,000 reward for an arrest and conviction in the case; anyone with information is asked to call 516-843-7722.
