A Greenport man was finally arrested Sunday after being stopped and ticketed twice earlier in the day for drinking beer in public, police said.

The third time, Southold Town police said, they arrested Haywood Reed, 59, and charged him with violation of the village code.

“Reed was causing disturbances throughout Greenport Village and was told to go home after being issued each ticket,” police said in a statement.

“After finding Reed in possession of yet a third open beer in a public place with intent to consume it, he was arrested, transported to HQ [police headquarters], processed and lodged,” the statement said.

All three occurences were at different times and locations in the village, police said.

The third and final time, at about 12:20 p.m., was in the Adams Street parking lot, police said.
