Cops: Gunman robbed Hewlett bank
A gunman with a brown backpack robbed a Hewlett bank Monday afternoon, then took off in a waiting vehicle, Nassau police said.
Armed with a handgun, the robber ordered tellers at Bridgehampton National Bank on Broadway to fill his backpack with cash, police said. After getting the money, just after 3:35 p.m., the suspect ran through the rear parking lot and got into a getaway vehicle, police said.
No injuries were reported among the four employees who were at the bank, police said. There were no patrons in the bank at the time, according to police.
The suspect, who appeared to be in his early 20s and was about 5 feet 5 inches tall, wore a black T-shirt, dark sweatpants, a red baseball type hat with the letter “C” in white, and white sneakers, police said.
Detectives ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
