Officers on patrol in Massapequa Park saw a man "acting nervously," discarding a flashlight and tools, in an area where they had seen a recent string of auto break-ins, police said in a news release.

They said their investigation found Demond Small, 31, of 33 King St., Wyandanch, had proceeds Thursday from two larcenies - and he was promptly arrested by Nassau County police.

Small was charged with two counts of fourth-degree grand larceny, three counts of third-degree criminal mischief, one count of fourth-degree criminal mischief, three counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools and resisting arrest.

He was scheduled for arraignment Friday in First District Court in Hempstead.

Police said the officers were on patrol near Brooklyn Avenue and Sunrise Highway at about 11:15 p.m. when they saw Small "acting nervously." When officers tried to arrest him, they said he fled on foot, damaged a fence at a home on Taylor Avenue and resisted arrest, flailing at officers.

Police said Small kicked and damaged walls in the holding cell after he was arrested.

Police said Small was linked to two larcenies Thursday on Merrick Road in Massapequa Park.
