Cops: Man breaks into Riverhead apartment, robs, hits occupant
A Riverhead man arrived home from work late Saturday night to find his apartment being burglarized by a masked man who knocked the occupant to the floor before climbing out a window and escaping, police said Sunday.
Riverhead police said the victim, Jose Torres, of Griffing Avenue, sustained minor injuries after the robber hit him on the head. He did not require medical treatment, police said.
The break-in occurred about 11:40 p.m., police said. The suspect fled north, leaving his backpack in the apartment, and it was found to contain items belonging to Torres, police said.
The suspect was described as a tall man wearing a mask and dark-colored clothing.
Police asked anyone with information to contact the Riverhead Police Department at 631-727-4500.
