A man who failed to rob a West Islip bank Wednesday morning pulled off a robbery about 15 minutes later at a bank in neighboring Babylon, police said.

The man entered Astoria Bank, 526 Union Blvd., West Islip, at about 9:10 a.m., “approached a teller and displayed a note demanding cash,” Suffolk County police said in a news release.

“The teller did not comply and the man fled,” police said.

At about 9:25 a.m., the man entered Capital One, 8 Little East Neck Rd., Babylon, and again “approached a teller and presented a note demanding cash,” police said.

This time the teller complied, and the man fled with an undisclosed amount of money, police said.

The robber was described as “in his late 20s to early 30s, 5 feet, 7 inches to 5 feet, 8 inches tall with a medium build and dark-colored facial hair. He was wearing a black knit hat, a black T-shirt and black pants.”

Detectives urge anyone with information to anonymously call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
