Cops: Man in traffic arrest assaults police
A Long Beach man, arrested in Oceanside after fleeing the scene of two traffic accidents in a stolen truck, was also charged with assaulting two police officers after he was arrested, police said Friday.
Richie Medina, 22, of 225 East Hudson St., was charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, two counts of assault, obstructing governmental administration, and two counts of leaving the scene of an incident.
A motorist at Atlantic Avenue and Lawson Street called police and led officers about 5 p.m. Thursday to Medina, Nassau police said. The motorist said Medina was the driver of a flat bed tow truck that had struck his car on Long Beach Road and Daly Boulevard, and left the scene, police said. Investigators determined that Medina was also the driver of that stolen truck that had earlier struck a car in Island Park and left the scene, police said.
Medina was arrested, but while he was being processed at the Fourth Precinct in Hewlett, he struggled with officers there, police said. One officer was later treated at a hospital for injured knees, and another was treated for a hand puncture wound, police said.
