Cops: Man robs Massapequa bank, a suspect in 4 others

A Massapequa bank was robbed Saturday morning by a suspect who may also have committed four previous bank robberies in Nassau County, police said.

In the 10:05 a.m. robbery at a Chase Bank branch at 4210 Sunrise Hwy., the man entered the bank wearing a dark New York Yankees cap, a gray hooded sweatshirt, gray sweatpants and sunglasses, police said. He was unshaven, about 6 foot 2 to 6 foot 3 inches tall. He looked to be about 30 years old.

He gave the teller a note demanding money, and the teller complied. He then took the cash and escaped in a car headed east on Grove Street. Police did not get a description of the car.

There were five employees and eight customers in the bank at the time. None were injured.

Robbery Squad detectives said, "This subject appears to match the description of an individual who committed four similar bank robberies starting on 5/27/10 in the Massapequa Park, Hicksville, Oceanside and Lynbrook areas."

Detectives request anyone with information about the robbery to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
