A Deer Park man involved in a parking-lot dispute with another man at a shopping center was later shot in the leg after exiting a store Friday night, Suffolk County police said.

Engelbert Benjamin was in the lot of a Deer Park shopping center at Commack and Bay Shore roads when he became involved in "an altercation" with a man he didn't know at about 8:45 p.m., police said.

After shopping, Benjamin, 30, was leaving a store when he saw a dark car drive by and heard gunshots, one of which struck his leg, police said.

Benjamin was treated at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, police said.

Detectives ask that anyone with information about the crash call the First Squad at 631-854-8152 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
