A Uniondale man faces a grand larceny charge for stealing more than $36,000 from a school district's bank account, Nassau County police said Tuesday.

Ivan Shamberger, 52, of 504 Decatur St., was arrested Monday, at about 9 a.m., at his home, police said.

Shamberger made a series of unauthorized debits between April 20, 2011, and Nov. 20, 2011, using account and routing numbers from the Uniondale School District's payroll account, police said. The total amount of the debits was $36,900, according to a news release.

A police spokeswoman said Shamberger stole the account numbers from a relative who works for the school district.

The spokeswoman said the relative did not know Shamberger had taken the account and routing numbers and was not involved in the incident.

At the time of his arrest, Shamberger was found to be in possession of four small bags of marijuana, police said.

Shamberger is charged with grand larceny and possession of marijuana. He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
